What breed for me?

Delawares have the best personalities are quiet and yes Rustyswomen lives near Boise I think..even my husband likes them because they all come running when they see you so it was easy for him to lock them up when I was gone. They never tire of pulling your shoelaces though..well the roo doesn't anymore he just wants a hand out beggars the whole bunch of them.

well Delaware's were near the top of my list & it looks like instead I may have to change my coop plans to accommodate a bigger bird since EVERYONE is recommending them.

well its no Delaware's for me.. This time.. on an impulse I bought 5 Red Star's. There about 4 months old. Unfortunately my coop isn't built yet, so they are spending the night in a dog crate outback covered with a blanket to cut the breeze. They spent who afternoon loose in my backyard & they appeared to enjoy it. Lots more space then I am sure they are used to.

I bought everything for the coop already though so tomorrow it will get put together. Due to logistics & having a nail gun that it is nearly impossible to find nails for anymore it kept me from getting too much done on it today. Coop is going to measure about 3'6" by 7' including the run. The run is going to be the full length across the bottom with the coop elevated at one end. I Think what it is called is an Ark (??).

My daughter is now super excited that tomorrow she gets to name the girls.

& as soon as I get them uploaded I have pics as well..

hi, im gonna recommend 2 breeds standard cochins and rirs both these breeds are freindly and alot of fun. hope this helps:cd

We are in TN but we have a lovely man who raises great chickens nearby who really educated me on breeds for us. We also have a daughter (age 8) and these are her chickens. We also live in a historic downtown area with a small yard so we wanted quiet, friendly chickens. He recommended Orpingtons (though he didn't have any at the time we were ready), Wyandotte's & Ameracaunas. The Ameracauna's were more my choice because I really wanted the blue eggs. So we have two of the Golden Laced Wyandotte's & two Ameracauna's. All have been wonderful as pets though they haven't started laying yet. The Ameracauna's (Mimi & Violet) will jump on your lap and come up to be pet. The Wyandotte's aren't as affectionate but are quite friendly. They've been terrific so far and my daughter just loves them.
