What breed have you found to be the quietest?

My lone Buff Orp doesn't make much noise at all. She's very calm most of the time. I just wish I could keep all my babies, but I have to consider my coop size and it's not got room for all of these when they're full grown.

I couldn't believe the store made customers purchase a minimum of 6. I'm not sure why they do that. What difference does it make if you're picking them up at the store?? It's not like they are being shipped and need the extra warmth. The city one of the stores is in doesn't even allow chickens and I even had to sign a paper saying I did not live in that city, but that I was buying 6 chicks. Isn't that silly!!

Anyway, I will be taking 8 of my week old chicks to this lady today. She's getting 4 Black sex-links, 2 RIR's, and 2 EE chicks. I'm only keeping 4 of the week-olds.

I just somehow need to move to the country so I can have as many chickens as I want without worrying about neighbors. Those of you who do live in the country, thank your lucky stars for it!!

We are blessed to be able to let our chickens free all day, no cage, no fence. They go in the woods and graze on the grass. This results in very few behavior problems.

But, the Americauna is the gal who talks the most. She comes around the house and talks to us the whole time. None of the banties to this.

I haven't figured out which roos crow the most, but I know our Jap does little crowing, especially when there are no other roos around. But that doesn't answer your question.

Hope you can move to the country too! I do thank God for it. After living in suburbs and city most of my life, I enjoy it very much. Most people still have problems with predators though, especially wandering dogs.

quiet chickens ? I'll believe it when I don't hear it.

I think I have 10 roosters who somehow all lay eggs for the noise they make.

The RIR and the Leghorns are ALL talkative. They only shut up when they are eating. (barely! they can talk with their mouths full from what I can tell) I have a RIR who makes pigeon noises, all of them crow to notify everyone of everything.

Now that I think of it, there is one time they make no noise... when one of them finds a treat and she runs away with it, she is sooooo quiet trying to get away with it before the others notice her find.

(and I love to listen :ya They fill my days with love)

I have Golden Comets, 1 Buff Orp, and 3 EE's. The EE's are never quiet. The Buff Orp seems to be pretty quiet, but the GC's are so quiet, I never hear a peep out of them unless I catch one of them and then it's not much noise. I also have a couple of RIR's, more EE's and Black sex-link week-old chicks in the brooder. I'm not sure how they are going to be yet. I hope they are as quiet as the GC's and Buff Orp.

Which breed is the quietest in your experience?
I love my golden comets, they are the quietest chicks ever, my Ayam Cemanis are also very quite

My BO cockerel is the loudest I have because... he's a cockerel. My three BA pullets are all very quiet. They make a gentle noise that sounds like a cross between "coo" and "who." When I go in to clean the coop, one of them, especially, will come in and "talk" to me.

My cuckoo marans are quiet unless they are singing an egg song OR at the back door trying to trick me into feeding them second breakfast. But most of the time they just sort of whisper-cluck to themselves or are silent. I've had a couple times I went out back and thought they'd managed to fly away! Sneaky, quiet birds...
