Very interesting link. I agree, but my "yellow feather chickens" used to be orpingtons. My next ones might be these little rocks. They have yellow down, does that count?

Maybe, it was just one place that used rir , who knows if they all do. Maybe it's just a name to differentiate between them and silkies

Have you got any photos? Many chickens have yellow skin in the US including Wyandotte, Rhode Island Red, Buckeye, and Rock.. to name a few popular breeds that may be readily available.

Also.. I'm responding as if you did mean skin color and not feather color. As stated their are yellow looking Silkies who's feathers might be mistaken for hair.. their skin is not yellow when cooked.


You mean like an actual dish.. that could be.

It's definitely not a silky. Silkies have black skin. The "yellow hair chicken" has yellow skin. I've never seen the yellow hair chicken with feathers/hair. But the skin is definitely yellow.

That link sounds like your market, then! The rest here are right, most regualr heratage breeds are good to eat by 16 weeks. I like them younger and smaller, mostly because I do not want a lot of crowing. Causes problems with the hubby and the city!

Yellow hair does not translate into the yellow feathers in the direct Chinese to English translation.

It's definitely not a silky. Silkies have black skin. The "yellow hair chicken" has yellow skin. I've never seen the yellow hair chicken with feathers/hair. But the skin is definitely yellow.

My White Rock chicks have an nice yellow down color, and yellow skin and legs. But it sounds like the market in SF is using a Rhode Island Red.
