he's pretty but we would like to know what he could possibly have in him.

Thank you. He lost many of his tail feathers to a rouge coon hound pup out of her pen but they have more of a green sheen to them. Would that still qualify him with that discription?
 
yes that would still qualify him. after seeing your bird I did some research on black tailed Rhode Island red, and my book said their tail feathers get greener as they grow. hope this has helped you

He's got too much black through his chest and body for a Rhode Island Red. He's a mixed breed, possibly with some RIR in him, but definitely not purebred.

Good eye. I missed seeing the black feathers in his chest until I saw your post and then enlarged the pic.
 
If I were to put him over My barred rock hens would they be sex linked? Or would his mixed heritage mess with the genetics too much to be accurate?

If you cross him with your Barred Rock hens the offspring will be Black Sex Links. The male chicks will have a white spot on top of their heads and the female chicks will lack the white spot.
