I’ve had my dog for roughly 7 years now and I always wondered what breed he was, He was given to us cause his previous owner was moving and they didn’t allow large dogs. We were told he was an Australian shepherd but I don’t think so to me he seemed to be a mix of a great pyre and Aussie. But what do you guys think? I have chickens and he doesn’t seemed bothered by them but that could be due to his age 8yrs
Why not get a breed profile done? You can find kits on ebay for around $30-$40. That will tell you the exact breeds and it is painless. You don't need blood, just a cheek swab. Anything else is just a guess. Some of his features look spaniel-like to me.
I agree, I think those DNA tests are the most accurate way to determine the breed of a dog. I did one on my dog a while back, it came back as mostly border collie and Australian shepherd, as I thought, but it also said that he was 12.5% American staffordshire terrier, and I would have never guessed that he was.
As others have said, if you really want to know what your dog is, the only way to know is to have a DNA profile done. What a dog looks like it might be and what the dog actually is not always the same thing.
