What breed is my dog?

I’ve heard those DNA tests are to be taken with a grain of salt. Something about a person tested their pure Doberman and got wacky results like “poodle” and “terrier”! I think you’re better off with visual appearance and behavior!👍

The Doberman is a human-developed breed, a mixture of many, as are most breeds today. Who knows what might show up in the DNA. Idk, if DH wants to believe the dog is a GSD or has some GSD in it, why not let him? A good marriage is more about keeping peace than about being right. IMO.

Thank you guys!
The papers that I got with him did have him labeled as an Australian cattle dog, but for some reason my husband thinks he’s not.

It’s probably because we have a friend down the road that also has an Australian cattle dog, that she got from a breeder. Her dog is a bit more stocky looking. But I explained to my husband that her dog is also a female and ours is male so he’s a bit bigger, also she’s a blue and ours is a red.

ACD's can come in different size/shape/appearance, since they're a working dog and the "breed standard" was about performance before it was about appearance. Here's my ACD/Border Collie mix:

He's big, about 60 lbs. When we took him to obedience class, the trainer had a purebred ACD who could not have been more different. A tiny little thing, but stocky and pointier ears. He told us that ACDs can be pretty variable in appearance.

Breed standard for true Australian cattle dogs is a far cry from the heelers we’re all thinking of. :) the ones that vary in size and shape aren’t “show quality” but they’re awesome working dogs - they’re a type, rather than a true breed. I’ve seen both; there’s a breeder here of show quality dogs, they are around 30-40lbs max, square but balanced bodies, with short, wide, wild dog type heads, and they’re -insane- I definitely can’t see any of them actually being of any use to work livestock. Lol.
The haircoat on your guy could be what’s making your husband think shepherd, but I see border collie. :p

Your right. I've seen cattle dogs come in allot sizes 30 lbs up to 50.( my brother in law has a 50lb male , of course he's over weight from all the treats! :) Some are bred short and stocky and some of the working breeds I've seen can be larger and lanker. Maybe because of breeding , maybe because of other herding breeds introduced to the mix.
