The depth of color varies greatly among Marans lines. Some breed for more abundance of eggs but give up deeper color. Those that breed for the really deep color must acknowledge they will be sacrificing frequency of laying. It has to do with the mechanics of the dark egg...it is darker because it spends more time in the egg duct receiving the coating..Thank you I was leaning towards a Maran but eggs threw me off, she's really a beautiful hen and her roo is going to be gorgeous!
