What breed is my pullet?

Oh wow! Thanks! Yes, my son talks to our new chickens every time he comes outside. He chases off the harassing rooster when he comes strutting in to stake his claim on my girls. I caught that "Mr. Fancy-Pants" strutting around my Gingerbread's cage yesterday and that girl was in a panic! That rooster is a nuisance! I didn't mind him and the girls coming round before... That was before they tried killing Mrs. Mcnugget though. It's pretty hard to reason with chickens...

My son will love the video! Thanks! These animals are so entertaining :D
I think your girls will appreciate the protection of their run. Does Mr. Fancy's flock belong to someone???

Yes, he does. We live in a rural "neighborhood" where most everyone has three or more acres. Fancy-Pants (that's what we call him) has been coming around for over a year. His crew started coming before he showed up though. When the neighborhood flock first showed up there were six or seven hens that would come hang out in our yard and poop on our patio. We haven't been here two years yet, but the previous tenant told us about chickens coming to visit when we bought the house. It took them about five months to actually show up for us though. Last summer something happened to several of the chickens, three never came back. It doesn't seem very safe for them roaming all over the place. There are fox and some coyote even that roam, not to mention loads of hawks and eagles.

We didn't know anything about chickens when Mrs. Mcnugget showed up under our rose bushes, missing feathers and bloodied badly. She would hide from Mr. Fancy and the others and would run from them. She started sleeping on our table, so we put a cat carrier out and she went right in. We noticed she wasn't sleeping well with it open, so we started closing it and letting her out in the morning. She just kept coming back. About two weeks later she lay her first egg in the cat carrier... So we bought her a coop. Now she stays in our yard, follows me around and sits on the table chatting with me. I don't know what else to do except make sure she is happy and safe.

I find all the strays! Now there's a banded pigeon that's been hanging out for over a week that we've been trying to feed, water and capture. It's crazy! :)

I love that story! And now a pigeon too. That's wild! I am building a loft for pigeons but don't have any yet.
:D Hahaha! That's really cool! I don't know what to do with pigeons. My mom has been a wild birder for years feeding everyone, through all the seasons and migrations. I managed to absorb a lot if wild bird knowledge through her. We've never been pet bird people though because we've always had 3-5 cats at any given time. I have one old male cat that, again, adopted us and decided he liked living with us more than his other people... He was an indoor/outdoor cat and his old people said we could just keep him since the woman was not well. She passed away a couple if years ago not long before we moved. The cat, Dippy, did spend several days with her before she died. We figured that one out later, as he was missing for about three days and it coincided with the week before her death. But we weren't able to break him of his desire to be free and after escaping six different harnesses, sneaking out and destroying our carpet... We finally complied to his demands and let him be an outside/inside cat. He's very jealous of Mrs. M. I caught him chasing her :( so he was locked in for a few days. He won't chase that crazy rooster though. Lol Sorry! I am a rambler and a story teller and live for digression! :)
Good luck with your loft! That sounds super amazing and I'd love to see and hear about how that goes. :D

BYC has a thread on doves & pigeons you can check out.
Wow! Thank you! She landed on the patio this morning to nibble on the seeds we put down for her... Haven't seen her drink yet, but we have fresh water of varying depths all around our house for the birds, that gets refreshed several times a day. So, hopefully she's found some. She's very shy. :D
