What breed is this + a silly question about it.

As long as they stick around I'll keep them... momma too. There are 9 total. If they are roosters and become to mean or loud I might sell them or give them to a friend who has chickens and doesn't mind roosters.

Yeah, hopefully there isn't very many roosters! I like the thought of how it's like she chose YOU to take care of her and help keep her safe.

Keeping her safe with the babies is a biggie, chicks make noise most if the night even while sleeping which can attract predators to them as babies make a good snack. Good luck with your hen and babies

No worries about predators especially now that I know they are under the shed.

Yeah she just randomly shows up. It's not the 1st time I had a bird randomly show up. Last fall I came home to find a peacock in my yard. I left her in the fence with the chickens and she stuck around ever since.

They are getting somewhat tamer. Momma Dukes is letting me get much closer to her. She spent 2 night in the coop with the other chickens. Last night she slept in her little hideout I built for her, but she's definitely starting to warm up a little to me. Don't get me wrong though she'll attack my hand when I try to reach in her hideout to fill her peeps dish with more feed.

That is such a cool experience! I am quite envious! Animals all flock to my husband like that...we call him Dr Doolittle at our house!
