What Breed is this Dog?

IMO the head type is not that of a chow or an akita. The tail is not a chow tail, that tail is up over the back and stays there. Plus the absence of pigment on the tongue.

The second photo, with the topskull, stop, cheek, muzzle fill, expression, bone, rear construction, it all says Rottweiler to me. Neither chows nor akitas have a saber tail like this dog displays, but the Rottweiler certainly does, and so does the Lab.

There is also a good chance that the dog has more then just two breed in it. My first thought was lab/chow, then lab/newfie. I agree with what the other poster said about looking at what breeds are common in the area. Also keep in mind it is a mix of breeds, not every mix of the same breeds will look the same. Sometimes they take after one parent more then the other, sometimes they are almost a perfect mix of both.

can't be a chow mix b/c i have a chow dalmation and she looks like a lab with the 3/4 dominant purple tongue. so my best guess would be the akita mix. unless the chow dates back in the genes and is now coming out in the tail and head shape.

I agree with Redyre. There is Rottweiler in there somewhere. Doesn't have to be a cross of 2 purebreds. Probably 3 or more breeds in there. But definitely Rottweiler.
