What Breed is this Rescued Chick?

Hello awesome chicken people!

So, here’s the story: Got a text from my friend that she ran into some people in town who had this chick with them. According to them, the mama and all the other babies were hit by a car hit) and this one was left. Being a Chicken Mama, I drove down to pick her/him up. In the old village part of town, people have been dropping off roosters for years (the roos are like local celebrities and everyone loves them). I have seen a hen amongst them in the past, so it IS possible one of them hatched out some babies. Anyway, I later told my sister and - believer in the goodness of humanity that she is - she doesn’t buy it. She’s convinced someone bought her/him for Easter and just doesn’t want her/him anymore.

SO, back to my question ... My first thought was Barred Rock, but upon further research/inspection, I’m thinking MAYBE Cuckoo Marans? If my sister is right (and the people just didn’t want the chick), then Cuckoo Marans would make sense (they said they had the chick for two days. I picked it up yesterday - Tuesday - and the local feed store list said they had Cuckoo Marans come in on Saturday (the day before Easter)). It could also be a mutt from the chickens in the Village.

Now I ask the experts: what do you all think? I’ve attached lots of pictures. Thanks!!

Don’t be sorry! I’d be thrilled if it’s really a Marans (dark brown eggs!), AND if they really did get it at the feed store, the chances of it being a pullet are much higher .

Yes, but I’m glad I picked it up. Poor thing! And I’ve been wanting a Marans ... I just have so many chickens now I wanted to wait until my flock started to shrink (dying of natural causes, of course!).

I agree with cuckoo maran. I ended up with 2 because they changed their mind. Heres how mine looked at a few days old.

Orphaned Baby Update!
I’m gonna keep the Little, since the people I reached out to either couldn’t take in any chicks, or theirs were already too old (Oh darn! I get to keep it ... ).
Not wanting little Phoebe (or Frazier but please, PLEASE be Phoebe because I already have so many boys ...) to be alone, I drove an hour north to pick up a Black Sex Link to be her buddy. Here are their 1 week and 2 days portraits. So the single chicken momma cycle starts again!
