What breed of chicken do I have?

I thought maybe barred but it never really got the barred look. It's mostly black

Not all Maran's eggs are dark. It depends on the strain and on the specific bird.

And unfortunately, Cuckoo Marans are most likely to have pale eggs.

She is actually barred (or cuckoo), it's just very muddy and messy patterning. Where did you get her? It's quite possible she's a mix, a barred father and non-barred mother. Not ruling out the cuckoo Marans as one parent, either.

Thanks Guys! My wife got her at IFA. But she couldn't remember the breed. So I've been curious to find out cuz we love her and she is our favorite hen @donrae
