I have a chicken coop/run for my younger pullets and cockerels. We got some of them the 3rd week of February at the earliest and some during the month of March. It is now May 25th. Today we found a decent sized brown speckled egg in the run. It is the same size our 5 month old Maran lays and similar in color. What other breeds can lay earlier. We have a mix of different breeds inside the coop/run.

Wellsummers are supposed to lay dark speckled eggs.
I dont believe I have any Welsummers in the flock, I have polish bantams, bantam cochins, dominiques, dark brahmas, a very very small maran that looks to be a cockerel, buff silkie, orloff, Silver laced Wyandotte, 2 random hens that are a brown like a rhode island reds coloring but have black markings that are not laced, and I have three blue/lavender chickens that I cant tell if they are cockerels or pullets, they are super small but already have the red comb and wattles, not crowing, looks bantam sized and have rose combs and none of the chickens are squatting for me. Also none of the cockerels are crowing yet. Which makes me wonder if some of them could possibly be hens that matured quicker hense the lack of saddle feathers and crowing.

Update: Two days since I found the egg and nothing again... we are completely baffled by our mystery layer.
