What breed of chicken produces the best eggs

Has anyone tasted an egg from an Australorp? I don't see much about them in the discussions, but this is the breed I'm most interested in.

I have Australorps and the eggs are a little smaller but just as tasty

I used to have an Black Australorp. Her eggs tasted the same as my Buff Orpington as far as I could tell. Mine were/ are both good foragers, so their eggs have more of an orange yoke. The only chicken I have whose eggs taste different out the breeds I have kept, is my Leghorn Hybrid. I think it is because she is a pickier eater, and she eats much more chicken feed than grass/ fruits/ veggies in comparison to my other chickens. Her yokes are more yellow, like a grocery store egg yoke color. I no longer have the Black Australorp because I just had more chickens than we needed and I downsized the flock by two.
 
I have mostly small breeds but a few. I have a Production red that lays a huge egg and they are very good. I have an Orhington that hasn't laid yet and she is nearing 9 months old. My EE's lay medium eggs and are good as well but I prefer the Production Reds Eggs. It's amazing how large her eggs are compared to her size. In a store they would be jumbo size. And they are brown eggs.
 
What they eat has the biggest influence on flavor of the eggs, so as others have already said, hens that forage well will have better eggs -- at least, in my experience, they'll have more orangy yolks. I had some Marans hens (don't have them anymore as they are the only breed that I've ever lost hens to the heat, and we aren't even in a really hot area) who were much better foragers than my Easter Eggers and Leghorns. Because the eggs were different colors (dark brown, green, and white), I could tell who was laying what, and the yolks of the Marans eggs were much darker orange than the others.

Not all eggs taste the same as feeding has alot to do with it. The best tasting are free range eggs after them come home raised fed eggs. Certain foods will flavor eggs which is why free ranged have such a unquie flavor. Some are sweeter than others some are stronger than others. But anyone one that has had true free range eggs (not fed) will never go back to store bought again. Fed eggs and what I mean is those chickens that are fed bagged chicken feed will be good but not as flavorlill as free range as they are fed alot of corn in the feed. Some fed eggs I have had local I could not tell the differenace from store bought. Yolks were pale yellow not the deep orange/yellow of free range. Taste was bland too. Better than store bought anything is better than store bought if it is fresh. I can not even open a store bought egg without gagging now that I have my own. Yes, I am biased as I free range my chickens. But I learned this before i own my own from a firend that gave my free range eggs. They just blew me away on how great they tasted. When we had a black sex link, I thought she was a fantastic layer. Now we have 3 "Hubbard Golden Comet" which is a red sex link and although I don't think they are very pretty they are some egg layers. The girls started at 5 months and within a week or so were laying what looks to me like huge brown eggs. They hardly miss a day unless they have laid a double-yolk the day before and even with the short daylight and cold they haven't slowed down yet.

We also have an assortment of bantams and I usually save their eggs up till I get a good size batch then hard boil and pickle them in beet juice and they are delicious and I am not usually fond of eating eggs.

My friends are crazy about the Comet eggs and I wish now I had more hens.
