What breed of chicken should I get?

The books I have read recomend a slightly smaller chicken if you live in a hot climate and a larger or heavier breed if you live where it is colder. Kinda makes since to me. I might stay away from the very large breeds if I were you. Maybe aim for a 5 or 6 lb chicken instead of an 8 to 10 lb one.

You have to work with them a little to get them tame, but Wyandottes are an good option. They lay really well and so far mine haven't pecked me. My tamest one pecks me on the back if I sit down, but she is only playing! Mine ate Blue Laced Wyandottes and are extremely beautiful!
hope this helps!

I LOVE my buff orpingtons. They are gentle and sweet and love to sit on your lap. Speckled Sussex are my second choice! Good luck!
