What breed of chicken should I get?

I don't have any chickens, but I am thinking about getting some. I want them for eggs, but I also want them to be friendly. I don't want them to peck at me every time I'm near them. Also I live in Arizona, it never snows where I live, but it gets pretty hot. In the winter it ranges from 50-70 degrees farenheit. In the summer, it gets to be 90-115 degrees farenheit (it once got to 120 about a decade ago). Will it be too hot/cold for them?

I would suggest white leghorns for eggs. They aren't exactly the tamest breed of chicken though. Also our Speckled Sussex are very tame and we get enough eggs from them... Good Luck! Try a variety of breeds works best.

I would worry about the heat in your situations. In Wisconsin it gets below Zero and our chickens ussually do fine. In the hot Summer months though, even when it's only like 90 degrees is plenty warm for them. I dont know exactly what type of breeds will do best in such a hot climate. Good Luck

I bet the eggs could boil themselves if they stay outside for too long! How would a chicken there manage to keep her eggs at 99.5 degrees during incubations? Thats very interesting. Never thought about that...

Okay, Thanks. Also it only get up to 115 on very hot days. It is usually around 100-110. Would they be fine if they had plenty of shade and water?

I think almost any kind of chicken would be fine as long as they have plenty of cold water and shade. maybe try a dugout house, might keep it cooler? good luck

well its not hot it is a dry heat. when i was there i didn't even notice the difference from Houston to Arizona heat except the humidity i love it out there!
