Hi! I'm new to ducks. My brother gave me two ducklings he got from a local farmers market. He was told they were 1 day old. I was just wondering what breeds they could be? I have been looking at different web sites and my chicken magazines (yes I forgot to mention i have 15 pullets and 1 roo). I also don't know what sex they are! I looked at the Metzer web site and watched the video on how to sex a duckling, but I'm afraid I will hurt them. Any help is appreciated thanks!]

As for sexing I wouldn't bother sexing. You can easily identify their sex in a few weeks by their call.

It's no problem at all. I hope you enjoy your little quackers!

Hello neighbor! I'm in Green Lane. What farmers market did he get them from? I was just out at the Green Dragon on Sat and DH got me 9 crested ducks. No idea on the breed either and I'm new to ducks as well. I wanted to start out with two like you so this should be interesting! Want more? I can deliver! lol.

Yours are adorable!

What a small world! I'm down the street in Schwenksville. My brother went to the Green Dragon last Friday and got them for me for Mothers Day. I can't wait to see what sex they are. Hoping for hens but I'm happy no matter what they are and maybe we will add two or so more later. They are sooo cute!! I do have a question what is needed as far as a house? We are currently building a chicken coop and will house them separately. What kind of shelter do the ducks need? We want to let them run/forage together. We will most likely get them a kiddie pool for swimming. We are new to both chickens and ducks so this is a great adventure. Thanks so much for all the help!

I've been searching on here for ideas for duck houses as well. Most of them seem pretty extravagent- nothing close that I could do. When I was planning on just having two ducks, I was going to use a large size dog house. But I have way too many for that now.

Kiddlie pools are great for ducks if you put some kind of drain at the bottom. I have friends that had ducks and when they emptied thier pool it drained right downhill into their garden. Nice set-up! I'm hoping to use the stream out back somehow. Need to figure out how to incorporate fencing and the stream. Way too may foxes around here.

Sorry I can't help you out more. I'm new to ducks as well.
