What breed of geese are these?

Thanks for the replies and the compliments! So... toulouse african cross appears to be the consensus. Since specific breed is not a priority, I would hope that the additions can fly (so as to not be left behind when my pair spook and take off to the sky), and otherwise have the calm temperament these two have. They do honk if strangers pass the property and sometimes hiss/flap wings at hubby from a safe distance, which he doesn't get because he is feeding them. But otherwise, they chirp really quietly to me. Don't think they will ever let me touch them (not that I've tried as I want to respect them), but they sure do appreciate my feeding them (fresh hay and a little whole kernel corn), and they love me bringing them a fresh bowl of water, which makes me scratch my head since the stream is mountain spring fed.

They are definitely not Steinbacher, true Steinbacher don't posses any sort of knob, and your geese look a little "chunkier" you might say their back halves. They could have Steinbacher blood in them though, but if you are in the US that would be rare.

Yes, agree. Some sort of mixed breed, which would make sense if the previous owner died and all the birds were virtually abandoned. Then there would be cross breeding.

Knob says either African or Chinese. If the geese are light weight, probably Chinese, and they look like a barnyard Toulouse Cross. Not exhibition Toulouse, which have a heavy keel. It could be African cross if they were hatchery Africans. Exhibition Africans are very large heavy birds.

They are very handsome birds.

Thanks all for the help on determining breed of my pair. And thanks, Oregon for the nice compliment. I think they are beautiful... and very sweet too.

So... not sure if I should create a new thread, or if I can ask you all a follow-up question. Since I want to increase the flock, would my pair prefer I get adults (females only, in case they are ganders?), or 3-4 mixed gender juveniles? or goslings?

Thanks!!

What a weird coincidence! The lady who used to feed the geese stopped by to visit this morning out of the blue. And ding, ding, ding.... you guys were right about the breed! When I asked her what she knew about breed/gender/age, she said they were african/toulouse crosses, ganders, in their mid-teens, and were the deceased wife's pets.

I asked her what she thought would be the best additions for the boys and she said to get goslings in the spring.

Very cool. I was going to say that I have an african and your goose has an african body for sure..... lol. The other half I didn't know but I do now. How did you get them?

Crj, they came with the place I got this summer.
Ryan, thanks! I try to spoil them properly.
