what breed of roo?

I do adore my Barred Rock boys, too. Best breed all-round in my opinion.

seems like the consensus is australorps or barred rocks as far as good size/personality matches go? i would be a bit concerned about a faverolle filling the role as protector. i have a SF hen, and truthfully she is lower than the silkie in pecking order. never met one of the roo's, do they have a bit more 'tude?

anyone have any opinions on the sussex IRT taking his protective duties seriously?

I was worried about my SF roo filling his role as a protector because he never came at me or my son (who is 3) and never even seemed worried about us. Then one day, our half-grown outside cat followed me into the coop and he started sounding the alarm and went over to the cat all puffed up so the cat changed his mind and got out of there. He's really a mellow rooster, but it seems like he can identify a threat when it comes along.
