i dont really care about disposition so much, when it comes to roosters weve experienced everything from _sent by satan on a mission to destroy all humans_ to_oh, im supposed to be a boy?-
im really just intersted in quietness, frequency and decibles of crow. i also realize that with a calm disposition the qiet factor usually goes up, so a calm and peaceful rooster would be great, but im really trying to find a really quiet one. right now im working on a light brahma, and so far he just makes these little trilling purrs. not like a regular chirp, or bawk, more like a trill. this seems like a good begining, just wondering if it will stay that low key, or if it will take off! what roosters have you experienced top be very quiet.

Some of the bantams might be quiet. There's one in the little town up the road from me (google: "Oviedo chickens") and he's pretty quiet. His crow is soft and raspy, but for all I know he has something wrong with him because he's the only fairly quiet roo I have ever heard.

I'll be interested to see what others say.

sorry. didnt mean to bore anyone with my less than origional idea, just wanted to know and thought some more experienced people here might beable to give me some insight.

Oriental gamefowl mostly from what i've experienced personally. My rooster will only crow early morning, if then, and you can't hear it at all unless out in the yard and nearby. He'll make quiet "bawks" when someone is out there with him but other than that he is quiet. If it weren't for the crowing competition between him and the bantam + American game i don't know if i'd ever hear him crow. Seems to be so with other peoples orientals as well.

PS. My oriental is a Shamo. I think Brahmas and such would be great as well coming from Orientals, from what i hear they're a lot like the Orientals in gentle nature and quietness.

Sorry, but I gotta disagree!!! My silkies don't shut up, and quite frankly, they crow every bit as loud as my Polish and my EE's. Its not quite as shrill as the Polish, but higher pitched than the EE guys.
