what breed of rooster is the quietest?

Well, having only ever owned one rooster, who happens to be a silkie, I will say, don't get a silkie if you want a quite rooster. Mine crows at any time during the day, but in the morning (and at night frequently) ever 8-15 seconds.. er errr err err errrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

My Splash Silkie roo was at least as loud as my Barred Rock roo. It took the Silkie (Betty. Who knew?) longer to find his crow, but when he did, he gave Petunia (the BR. Again, NO idea.) a run for his money! Betty had to go live on a Farm in New Hampshire b/c we couldn't keep him.

I have a beautiful Partridge Rock called Tobias that is the ideal roo, IMO. He rarely ever crows and when he does it is muffled and discreet. He is a vigorous but gentle breeder and he never even looks at me sideways. Keeps to himself but takes good care of the girls.

I love me a Toby Roo!

I have one roo that I have never heard crow, and he is about 14 months old. BUT---up until tonight he was in a pen with a very Alpha BO roo who would not allow him to crow. I'm hoping now that he's alone with the ladies he will start crowing.

I love the noise my roos make, it just sounds so happy!

*I just today re-homed my 4 BO roos, there were just too many of them.

Actually I think it depends on the rooster and how many you have or how many he can hear. I have several, so when one starts they all just join in. I have a someone near me that has a rooster and i hear him in the morning back and forth with mine, but I don't hear him through out the day if I am at home.

My RIR is the quietest I've ever had.....but he has no competition....it seems when there are others around, they compete.....bantams I find annoyingly loud and high pitched....I think it's an individual thing....like many things.....
