what breed of rooster is the quietest?

To wake the sun up of course.... lol
That's a good question. I've asked the same thing. I think it has to do with their territory.

My little serama roo doesn't crow much and it sure isn't very loud when he does.
It is really cute!!

I have a Partridge Rock roo too. If you're outside.....he's crowing his butt off. My neighbor hates him! He's also come at me, my husband and my son. I have to arm myself with a broomstick.

Same reason wolves howl, dogs bark & cats meow. To let the ladies know they are the head honcho, ready & available. And to tell the other males to back off of their ladies and stay out of their territory. And to wake up your grandma!

Just to tick you off!!! The crowing is almost enough to make me switch to ducks. I love watching my birds around the yard but I am afraid to let them run without a roo. We have hawks and I have witnessed my roo save a girl from a redtail (actually hit her and I thought she would be dead on impact) when he was 4 months old and watched him beat down a coopers hawk that got into their old run area. LOL.

Back to the question at hand, I don't know who is the quietest, but I think my white leghorn is the loudest. He is definately louder than my Americaunas and crows at all hours. He also has an annoying crow. Not sure if it's the breed, but his voice reminds me of Rosanne Barr singing the national anthem. The Amer. roos are much smother and crows about half as often and only about 80% as loud.

I have two (in seperate pens) that compete for the loudest award...
