What breed or chickens do you have, and what type is your favorite?

Barred rocks are my favorite breed too! I do like buff orphingtons too.
For now I have
Two millie flours coffee, and brownie
Eight old English bantams they don't have names yet.
One buff orphington Prince
And then one black star butterfly.

I just loooooove my silkies (and silkie mutts)! Even the roosters were cuddly lil guys. If I could only have one breed, It'd be silkies for sure.

Ummm .. Barred rocks.. Had to give this some thought?
I think it may have something to due with the barring.
A group of birds on the move can play with your optical perceptions (black and white )... Something like a spinning wheel on a stick. For this guy... The show birds , with their finer barring..... Have this affect on me compared to the commercial types.

Hi... I first started with show type barred rocks. I absolutely loved them. I even had bantam barred Cochins.
Even did well in the shows...
Too pick a favorite breed... (Almost mission impossible)..
So many breeds... All have their special traits.
I had over the years...
Marans, barnvelders, leghorns, americanas.. Isa Browns and red rocks...
At the moment.. I have a few white silkies... And old English games.. Looking at americanas and red rocks again in the future.
The mind wonders with so many possibilities.
Looking at raising bantams for the moment... They seem to be a great fit at this time. Looking forward to watching all the fun they will provide... I don't mind the small eggs.
Yes, I love Barred Rocks for show. Although I never know where to get really good show quality birds at. I just end up buying them at my local feed store. I love there temperament, they are such sweet birds!!

Chanteclers. They are good for both eggs and meat, and have even temperaments. Their small combs and wattles mean they get minimal frostbite & they have good plumage quality to protect them from cold winds. Plus, the variety I raise (Partridge) is quite beautiful.

Breeders can be hard to find unless you go to a few APA certified shows. Suddenly you realize how many are really out there.

In general, breed clubs will have lists of people with birds for sale. That doesn't guarantee that they are selling good birds, though, so memorize the breed standard for whichever one you choose and ask for pictures of the birds for sale. That is, unless you're getting chicks, which can be rather a roll of the dice.

Nobody will sell you their most perfect birds, but you can get some quite nice ones that way.
