Ok thanks! When I go to show, the judge is looking for the egg production most of all. Some of the birds there were dirty, and missing some feather, but they still did really good.In general, breed clubs will have lists of people with birds for sale. That doesn't guarantee that they are selling good birds, though, so memorize the breed standard for whichever one you choose and ask for pictures of the birds for sale. That is, unless you're getting chicks, which can be rather a roll of the dice.
Nobody will sell you their most perfect birds, but you can get some quite nice ones that way.
Sounds like you aren't going to APA/ABA endorsed shows, then, unless it was a special egg production class. Having top of the line birds doesn't matter near so much for that.Ok thanks! Yea, at my very first show, I wanted to make sure my birds looked there absolute best, so I cleaned them, bathed them, and separated them from the rest of the flock. But of course that stopped them from laying eggs, so I got docked some points. I know a little better this year though.Sounds like you aren't going to APA/ABA endorsed shows, then, unless it was a special egg production class. APA/ABA show judges should still put due weight on egg and meat production qualities but a dirty or poorly conditioned bird isn't going anywhere.
