What Breed or Gender is This

Hi! I am fairly new to backyard chicken keeping. I have recently acquired this beauty, which I was told was a pullet. But I don't know what breed she is. Perhaps a mixed breed? Very interesting comb. Anyone have any thoughts?

That's a cockerel. Mixed breed, possibly a Dominique-based black sexlink.

Thanks so much - that's what I was afraid of! I just don't understand how breeders don't know the sex of a young bird they are selling, trading, or whatever, by the time the chicken is 3 months old! This is the 2nd time this has happened to me!

I agree it's a mixed breed cockerel. He's going to be stunning when he matures!

If possible, when planning to purchase birds older than fluffy baby chick age, you may want to post pics here before you commit to buying the bird. We've been able to help folks in that way in the past, avoid cockerels or breeds that aren't as advertised. There's usually someone hanging around here most of the day to be able to get back to you in a reasonable amount of time.
