What breed is this and what is the gender? Can any body help?
He or she is 6 months old. No sign of crowing yet and isn't laying eggs. it doesn't like anyone to get close to it or pet it. It is very alerted to any sound or movement.

Looks like a game bird or more likely game bird mix to me.

Probably a hen as no large sickle feathers and saddles at 6 months.

They develop more slowly and tend to be quite flighty. Depending upon the type of game, can be only seasonal layers.

I agree.

Does a Buff Catalana or a game bird have white legs and white earlobes?

Also, I am new to chicken, can you explain "seasonal layers"? a few a month or only on specific season? this chicken hatched on April 25th.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes, Buff Catalanas do have white earlobes. I'm not sure about white legs, though.

This is a Buff Catalana from Sand Hill, she does look a lot like theirs do, the amount of black in the tail feathers varied some had more, some less. They were all -really- flighty. They are pretty good layers though.

A "seasonal" layer would be a bird that lays, sometimes well, during certain seasons...typically from spring through summer then does not do well (or at all) in shorter daylight hours of winter.

Games birds can be seasonal or just poor throughout as they are more ornamental (now....they used to be used for gaming).

I think BYC input has been good that she is a rare Catalana and my breed information says she'll be a good layer for you.
