Sorry for taking so long to get the pictures, I kinda forgot about this thread...Though many people claim they can, I don't think it's quite that simple. For instance, I have seen some very light colored barred hens (I'll post some pics when I get on my other computer), and I've also occasionally seen barred roosters that are sold as pure, but only have one copy of the barring gene. In edition, neither of these chickens have a particularly large or red comb.
As for the cochins, I personally am not certain on chickens that young unless they have a large, brightly colored comb. The one you claim is a male could very easily be a fast-developing female, or the other ones could just be slow-developing males.

My best guess is a leghorn mix, though he could definitely be a hamburg mix. It's possible that his hamburg parent was hatchery quality and only had one copy of the rose comb gene.View attachment 1507363
