I don’t take away food and water at night until 6 weeks of age or more. They need it 24/7 until then. Yours should be approaching what we call the zoomie stage soon.

Noob question: Can I take their food and water out at night? I'm worried they'll get wet and get chilled.

Don't worry too much about ducklings getting too cold! I see the ducklings in the local farm store panting in their stock tanks all the time because the heat-lamps are hanging too low and ducklings pile up, even when it is too warm to do so.
My ducklings and ducks have access to food and water 24x7x365 and i never had a problem with a duckling getting too wet or chilled. But when they ran out of water or food they gave me a really hard time!

Another noob question: When can I put them on pine shavings? They are only 3 days old, and the puppy pads are working fine, but I'm running out of them. I have a gazillion shavings, though.
