That is exciting! Sounds like you are pretty much ready for them. Luckily the ducklings will not care if you have a fancy lid or not. They will just be disappointed they have a lid and can't escape.

They'll appreciate it when my two boy cats discover the fuzzy little play things! That is exciting! Sounds like you are pretty much ready for them. Luckily the ducklings will not care if you have a fancy lid or not. They will just be disappointed they have a lid and can't escape.
I've seen people wrap it with hardware cloth pretty high (say 4-5 ft) and that seems to keep cats out. I have only 3 ft of chicken wire wrapping my kiddy pool, but my cat/dogs won't be in the room with them unless they're supervised, and there's no way my cat is bright enough to get in there anyway! They'll appreciate it when my two boy cats discover the fuzzy little play things!
Definitely! They'll appreciate it when my two boy cats discover the fuzzy little play things!
I think I'll just put hardware cloth on top like a lid and use bungee cords to keep it down. The brooder will be out in the livingroom. I want to be around them as much as I can while I'm working from home. At night, we'll put them in my son's bathroom. My cats are big dummies, too. Don't trust them, though.I've seen people wrap it with hardware cloth pretty high (say 4-5 ft) and that seems to keep cats out. You don't need a lid if the trough's wall are taller than a foot. Ducklings cannot fly, they can only climb on rough surfaces.Yay, duckies!!!!! 3 days!!!!!!!!!!
Slowly. I bought a stock tank, but I saw a LARGER one for cheaper on CL. So I'm going to get it this weekend. I have a heating pad, feeder, waterer, pans with racks to catch mess (hopefully), puppy pads, starter, and yeast.
I just need the trough. And I need to rig a lid. I'm thinking hardware cloth and bungee cords. Reeeeaaaalllll fancy....
I think @Aunt Angus was more thinking to keep the pets out. But that's good to know! You don't need a lid if the trough's wall are taller than a foot. Ducklings cannot fly, they can only climb on rough surfaces.
