What Breed Should I Get?

Pics
I recommend anaconda ducks !!! You may need to look around a bit cause they are a endangered domestic species bug they are worth it they have unique cow spots that come in a variety of colors and they are very gentle and love to be hugged ! My two girls lay more eggs than the chickens (egg color can vary) my eggs are white with brown speckles! They are super cute and will attach photos ⬇️here⬇ (The second pair of ducklings is ⬇️⬇️not related to the first )View attachment 2526787View attachment 2526788View attachment 2526789View attachment 2526791
Well, if you want something really special, you need to watch out for the Dutch Hookbill breed:

With you living in California, you could actually get your hands on some of them: David Holderread sold his breeding stock to Metzer's who, after unsuccessfully trying to breed them commercially, sold them to another duck breeder in the vicinity.

Thankfully, mine don't! I tried to put them on shavings, and - sure enough- they started eating them.
🤦‍♀️
I'm sure they didn't! Shavings taste awful (try one!). They tried them and spat them out, i'm sure!
Ducklings try to eat everything! Their bills are their fingers with which they explore their world and they learn quickly what is edible and what's not.

I don't see mention of them anywhere, but maybe I just need to look harder. This breed has been on my wish list for a while, and i know they are exceedingly rare.

Another noob question: I have one chick who is VERY vocal. Will she be the noisiest as an adult, too? I don't mind, but I think it's funny! It's the Runner (Figgy). Every time I am out of sight, she stands up like a bowling pin and peeps like crazy.

I think it means she loves you!

My Pigweed was the peepiest, and the most eager for food, as a little baby. She retained those characteristics into adulthood! Now she combined them into one super power: shout quacking for food. Lol.

Me, too! It's fun to see all the different colors and personalities mingling in the chicken yard. What breeds do you have???
I have(1 of each) a barred rock,a new Hampshire red ,a red sex link,a buff Orpington, a white brahama , a astrolap, a silver laced Wyandotte, & a Americana, they are all on my profile pic . What breeds do you have

They are so cute! I know this post wasn't directed towards me, but I have a Barred Rock, a Light Brahma, two Easter Eggers, two Silver Leghorns, a Cinnamon Queen, a Rhode Island Red, a Sapphire Gem, a Red Laced Wyandotte, and a Salmon Favorelle.

I found that Runner ducklings tend to be the loudest ducklings of all! Exceeded only by White Layer Ducklings - when they are hungry. Don't know about Pekins though.

Not all of mine have kept the same personality as they age. In one batch, my most talkative duckling would just talk all the time. I think she liked to hear the sound of her own voice. Now she is more obsessed with the ground and any delicious things she could possibly found. One of my least talkative ducklings, maybe cause her brooder mate never stopped talking. Now she is one of my most talkative ducks. So you don't always know. I had skiddish ducklings become more social or more chill when they went outside. Until they fully live outside, I just can never figure out their personality.
