My Polish is an excellent layer of medium sized eggs. I get at least 5 eggs a week from her. AND she never goes broody. Maybe she is an exception.
Orpingtons are generally love bugs, and come in a variety of colors these days.

Polish were used for commercial egg production for a short time in America, long ago. The white crested black remain good layers, in my experience. All Polish are classed as non-sitters. I never had one go broody.

But the OP is looking for a large size chicken. Polish don't qualify for that. They can be quite flighty, sometimes.

Yes I know. I was just defending my Polish girl's laying ability!

Yes they are wonderful! Mine were flighty when I got them but now they are my friendliest birds, always chatting. They are my only experience with Sussex's though so not sure if that's typical of the breed or if mine are friendly because I nursed them through an illness when I got them.

It really is a hard decision. I’ve considered ameracona or ever Easter eggers. I’m still look at all options. I do have 5 kids and they may or may not want to try to pick them up. I’d like to have 4 of the same kind incase I decided to have chicks.

3 girls to one rooster could cause problems though. He might over breed them.
