Two new girlies (I think) - Any ideas on breed? They are 4 weeks old. Thanks in advance!

Congratulations on your new chicks.

Did you get them at a feed store? Where you got them can help a bit.

Unfortunately, you've photographed them at the very awkward stage of neither chick down nor adult feather, so they are much harder to identify as the fluff is on a very "bad hair day."

In zooming in on your photos, I believe the first bird, with yellow legs, has a rose comb. If you got them at a feed store, my guess is that is a Wyandotte of some color type. Wyandottes come in a large variety of colors, and I can't pin point anything yet with the white pre-feather stuff, but possibly a partridge type or possibly even Gold Laced. Mature feathers will tell.

In the second bird, one photo appears to have green legs of the legs I can see, and it appears to have a pea comb. Again, if from a feed store, I would guess that it is an Easter Egger.

Repost in another few weeks, around 6 to 8 weeks of age after more mature feathers fill in for updates on ideas.

I got them from a small farm, and she had been given them by someone else. :) They are in that goofy inbetween stage - I didn’t think about that! I wait a few weeks and try again. Thank you!

These are just guesses, because it's really hard to tell the breed at this stage if you don't already know what they're supposed to be: I'm thinking possibly Russian Orloff if the first one with the yellow legs has a rose comb, and silver Leghorn for the second one (if that's a single comb--it's hard to see).

I really doubt Russian Orloff....they have cushion combs not rose...and there is no sign of the heavy neck feathering for an Orloff.

Most likely mix breeds...fun to have....fun to guess what might be behind them. Some will simply defy identity.

Time will tell.
