What Breed?

What breed of duck do you think would be best for egg production? Also for meat if possible, but that is second after egg production.
Thanks,
Ashley

Welsh harlequins! My welsh hens give me 3 eggs a day! (i have 3 hens) and the drakes would be good roasters....

My second choice would be buff orpington.....

Nope, there are BO ducks too! I almost got some...

Not sure, havnt had then over winter. Not at laying age at leased... I hear that some do though!

I just adopted a Buff Orpington duck. She is AWESOME. Lays daily, and is SO, SO mellow. She has mellowed out my Anconas considerably, and is meatier than they are by quite a bit. I will be adding 2 Welsh Harlequins & hopefully another Buff to round out my egg production.
ETA: They do lay all winter - the gal I got them from only went without eggs from her during molt. She began laying promptly after.
They make for fabulous eye candy, too.

My Anconas have begun to lay daily as well. And the drakes are meaty as all get out.

The best ducks for egg laying are Khaki Campbells, Welsh harlequin, Runner, and Golden 300 hybrid.Of those the Campbell is the best layer, the WH is the prettiest, the Runner is the most comical, and the 300 will not breed true.

If you want both meat and eggs, then look at the Silver Appleyards.

The best meat duck is the Pekin, and to my surprise, my Pekins are excellent layers. They don't have a reputation as layers, but I'm getting an egg a day from each duck and they started laying weeks before anybody else.
