what breed?

She is seven months old and makes these quiet peeping noises. That's all. At what point will she crow, and let me know for sure she is a HE? Because I don't want to prematurely raise cain with the man I bought her from who promised me a hen.

Here are a couple better pics I just took.

I bet that if you get up very early in the morning you will hear some feeble attempts at crowing. At 7 months old he is probably already attempting to crow, it may take a while for him to get it right. I wouldn't raise too much cain with the person you got him from, it was probably an honest mistake. Maybe they will trade him out for a confirmed pullet.

It is a cockerel. I'm sure the guy ordered pullets, but hatcheries only claim to be 90% accurate. I got 6 sexed EE pullets from the feed store and I ended up with 2 of them being cockerels.

Agree it's an Easter egger cockerel, but I'm thinking more like 4 months, not 7. Unless you've had the bird that entire time and are positive on age, I'd say the seller was mistaken. I'm sure the seller thought it was an Ameraucana pullet, because that's what they bought from the hatchery. Hatchery sexing is only 90-95% accurate, Oops roosters happen. If the bird was sold to you as a pullet, and you paid pullet prices, you should contact the seller and let them make it right for you. I seriously doubt there was ill will involved, so go on the assumption they'll want to fix things for you.

I did contact him and he agrees it is a rooster. He is "out" of hens right now (?) but said he might be able to get some in a couple days. We'll see how it goes.

I really like this bird so it makes me sad. It is friendly and much smarter than my other three hens. HA. But I want EGGS not crowing.

Also, my friend from whom I bought my first three hens from said I can bring it over to their farm and put it with one of their roosters, and we'll know for sure if it's a rooster or a hen. haha. What about that idea?

I think it would be a bad idea to put him with roosters that don't know him. One or all could seriously hurt him or kill him. Unless she has acres of land and numerous hens, than maybe. But please don't stick him with other roosters just to make sure. I think just about everyone that posted said it was a cockerel and also the guy that sold it to you confirmed that. :hide
