My wife and I recently got into backyard chickens. So far its been great but we are wondering what exactly we have. We purchased our chicks from a company that is known to supply tractor supplies that were labeled with breed and gender but 6 weeks later two of them appear to be a little off. We would appreciate any incite. I'll start with the two that seem most straightforward:

#1: Labeled Speckled Sussex, as far as I can tell this looks correct. This one has the "reddest comb" but it is not very red yet.

#2: Labeled Rhode Island Red: Appears correct to me.

#3 Labeled Cuckoo Maran: I think this is incorrect, feet are lightly feathered but no Cuckoo is obvious.

#4: Labeled Cuckoo Maran: Similar to above, does not appear correct. Feet are also lightly feathered. Interestingly this one appears to have a black comb and feet.

Here is the whole flock so you can see their faces:

Thank you in advance for the help!

#3 and #4 are most likely Sapphire gems, though #3 looks exactly like my Cuckoo Maran x Araucana Olive egger. #2 is indeed an RIR, and #1 is possibly an Ancona, although it looks like a speckled sussex.

One is a speckled sussex pullet.
Two is a RIR pullet
Three and Four could very well be blue cuckoo marans, the females are not very barred in appearance, but could also be blue copper marans or olive eggers. TSC is famous for mislabeling. You are indeed lucky all are pullets. 😊

1 and 2 seem correct but 3 and 4 are sapphire gems. I had 4 of these previously and they are amazing birds. I have 5, 4 week old cuckoo Marans and they are black and white. Sapphire gems are pretty docile and are non setters. Good luck with these girls. (They seem to be all girls)

Blue cuckoos would fit, sapphire gems do not have feathered legs. 😊
