I am getting my chicks shipped out on February 16th. I've placed a small order with Ideal for 10 chicks (1 Salmon Faverolles, 1 Buff Orpington, 1 Barred Rock, 1 Black Australorp, 2 Ameracauna (EE), 1 Naked Neck, 1 Norweigan Jaerhon, 1 Exchequer Leghorn, and 1 Golden Campine). They said because of the cold weather they will place chicks for warmth in the box, ones that look different from what I ordered. I am just curious what other breed(s) others have recieved as thier chicks for warmth aka packing peanuts

I usually get 100 at a time so I have no idea what kind of chicks would be considered "packing peanuts"

Love the term though. You will have to let us know.

What are you supposed to do with the extras if you don't want roosters?

We got white leghorn roos. We gave them all away on CL, free if they took all, or $1 each if they only took some. Someone came and took them ALL.

Oh man...."chicks for wamrth" is right! I ordered 13 pullets from ideal, and they DID send me those.

Along with 11 RIR roosters.

(Which have now grown enough to recognize and rehome.)

Goos luck!

I figured I'd sell them off and make money off them, since they are free. Might keep one though, I didn't order any roosters might be nice to have just one!

We process a few each year, but I have a Hmong family that buys all my extra Roos. After raising them for 4 months and then selling at $5 each I ain't making a profit, but at least a family friend and her family are well fed.
