What breeds have pretty hens?

Cochins are really cool, my White Cochins are like big snowballs, really fluffy, pretty and friendly and very inclined to be broody if that appeals, and they come in all kinds of colors. My Partridge Rocks (hatchery chicks from McM) are just gorgeous - of all my hens, they have the loveliest lacing with that beetle-green/ black edging, and they are good layers and personable. I actually am not too crazy about my Light Brahmas. They are big, kind of aggressive with the other hens, not fantastic layers, and not friendly. I love my Buff Orp's. I love my BA's. Just my opinion!

I like the Australorp as well. They have those large dark eyes that give them a kind face and have the big round body that makes them a nice traditional looking bird. I have a
variety of chickens but I love my Australorps.

Order chicks from a hatchery. That way, they all come from the same place, you wont have any/few roosters & you can get a huge assortment of breeds. Also, you have the joy of raising them from chicks & they will be so tame where as if you buy from a breeder you will have to get adults to ensure hens & if you buy hatching eggs, you will land up with a bunch of roosters.

Definitely get a Speckled Sussex and a Blue Laced Red Wyandotte if you want pretty hens. Also, I love my Golden Campine hens. They seem to really stand out in the flock.

I think my BO girls are just beautiful. Full, golden feathers. They are the sweetest things to. I just love them. I have to say the BR girls are cute, and have fun personalities too. The Buff Orps are just beautiful, calm, lovable girls.

I have one Partridge Rock chick from McMurray about 4 wks old, looks identical to the SLW....except for the comb! would you mind sharing a pic of yours so I can see what theyre supposed to look like?

All of the above breeds are beautiful, I like the Speckled Sussex, Black Australorp, all Wyandottes, and Buff Orpingtons. Welsummers may not be "showy" but they are multicolored and I think theyre pretty. I love Cochins personally, but dont think they are the best layers you could get.

I really like BOs and Speckled Sussexs. Black Australorps may be added to the lists. The only RIR I like are the real dark mahogany heritage lines which aren't easy to find. I was just talking to ShelleyD about some Blue Wheaten ameraucana eggs. Around here everyone has EEs not Ameraucanas but they'll swear and cuss thinking that will change your mind about their mutts. I don't trust bringing live birds into my flock unless its from a bycer.
