I bought six black chicks the week before Easter after I called the hatchery that sent them to my farm supply, and they identified them as Black Australorps. But after I'd had them for a couple of weeks, I noticed three were different, so I called the hatchery again and they identified the three different ones as Barred Rocks. I'm excited to learn via Google that they lay light brown pinkish, or pink eggs.
I'm also getting 13 Easter Eggers, not Ameracaunas, at the end of May; and I have six Golden Comets, plus my three Black Australorps, so I can't wait to see the results in my egg basket. I'll post again if I get pinkish or pink eggs from my Barred Rocks or Easter Eggers. If my BRs lay pink eggs I'll definitely order more. They're from Cackle.
These eggs look Brown in the picture but they are very dark pink in better light. I have a mixed flock but I know where each girl lays and having seen my silkie on the best these are in and finding these pink eggs when she gets up I have no doubt. I will try for a better pic. I don't have a brown egg to compare it with at the moment, I used them all the other day and that girl is growing old and slowing down production side. Almost time for the soup pot.
My hen lays pink eggs! The outside color is a creamy pale pink, but the inside of the egg is the most beautiful shade of pink. It looks like the inside of a seashell. She is sitting on her first clutch of eggs which are due to hatch in four days! I think the Roo is a RIR. What will come of this pairing?
