What breeds lay what color eggs?

This sight ROCKS thanks to all for your comments. Also thank you for the charts- they are full of info, nice to have as a ref. For those of you who have rainbow colored egg baskets congrats, thats what i would like to see. The pics are great as well. It looks like these breeds lay less eggs than an egg prod breeds, What would be a good number of hens to have if I wanted to get roughly a dozen eggs daily from these diff colored egg laying breeds?

If you want a dozen eggs a day, I'd get 3 of each of the breeds that Ilia said, for about 21 or so birds...I have 20 hens of laying age, and right now some are moulting, so I'm only getting 8 or 9 a day, at most I've gotten 19, but only once. Usually average around 12-14 per day...

Yeah I was thinking 3 of each myself, and btw Illia, I love your webpage. Very similar to my goals as far as egg producing and breeding. We (My wife and I) already started a week ago with our very fist chicks (red sex links) and we got some more this week ( barred rocks and Cal. White Leghorns) so I believe that we are covered with white and brown eggs. I guess my next step would be to find out where to get ourselves good quality breeds for these eggs.

We will be selling hatching eggs in the summer and next year though.

Next summer sounds about right, we won't be doing our own incubating for a several more months.

I've been getting 10-12 eggs from my 13 girls...but I was much lower in the winter (4-6 eggs) If you consistantly want 12 eggs a day, 18-23 or so sounds like a good number.

This is an awesome chart that will answer a ton of questions for you. Basically if a chicken has white ear lobes it lays white eggs and red earlobed chickens lay brown with a few exceptions for the tinted egg layers.
