What breeds of chickens do you have?

Mine are predominantly for eggs, but I like them as pets as well. Albeit mostly allusive ones.

I have:
One Production Red (Ol Red),
One Cuckoo Marans (Nut),
One presumed B. Australorp (Glinda),
And seven Easter Eggers.

I have 1 Ameraucana, 1 olive egger, 2 barred rock, 2 Black Copper Marans and 5 Welsummers . I have mine for eggs and they do help with keeping the bug population down around my house. I really don't have a favorite they all have their own personality and are pretty entertaining.
That sounds like a great flock. Do you like the wellsummers? I was thinking about getting a few. What color eggs do your welsummers lay?

We have Japanese and Button quail. And chickens! I love my bantam chickens. We have 3 Old English Game bantams, 2 Pekin (Cochin) bantams, 2 Booted bantams, one Silkie bantam, 2 Wyandotte bantams, then we have 2 French Houdan, 2 English Araucana, and 2 Orpingtons. They are pets first and foremost.
I will definitely be getting a Silkie before next summer! I think they're adorable, and I'm learning that you want one around to act as a surrogate mommy. Do you have any experience with that? The game chickens are gorgeous, I've definitely thought about adding a few of those as well. Are they friendly?

I got my Old English Games as pullets and two have been very friendly (unfortunately we lost one - my favourite - earlier this year so we only have three now). The other two are a bit nervous but willingly eat out of your hands. They are my absolute favourites because they are so full of character and they are fantastic mothers. I've used three to hatch or adopt chicks (only because the breeder would take back boys) and they have been brilliant!

Our Silkie is not well bred and her top knot looks terrible at the moment after a very wet winter here in New Zealand. She's the youngest of our bunch but she went broody towards the end of summer - out in the corner of the run no less because I had three other broody bantams in the coop so the other birds started laying in the run tucked away where I didn't notice! I had to rescue her one night when we had a terrible storm and she was getting soaked sitting on those (infertile) eggs.

Awww those are gorgeous!
I have one six year old California Grey, and five that are 12 weeks old: Golden Comet, Black Australorp, Golden Laced Wyandotte, Easter Egger, and Cuckoo Marans. Hopefully they are all pullets, but the jury is still out on the Wyandotte.

I've had two at a time for about 8 years, at first because my son wanted them, and I like having them for eggs and as pets.
I've never heard of a California grey, I'll have to check them out. My main plan was to have them for eggs, but they really have become pets! They're so fun to watch, the way they interact, and their personalities :)

So which breed do you like best for being broody, surrogate, or good mothers? I don't show chickens, but if I bought a silkie I would still expect one that has good traits, and is well bred. Poor thing getting soaked for infertile eggs, but at least that shows you she's determined :)

4 of my Welsummers are still too young to lay . My hen that is old enough( Dorothy) is probably my sweetest girl I have . She lays a darker brown color in egg
Do they lay the brownish/reddish, dark terra cotta colored eggs? What age do they start laying at?

I have orpington, rocks, leghorn, houdan, cochin, naked neck, frizzle, egytian , ee, andalusian , ancona, modern game, cornish, and some scott dumpy babies
Wow awesome! Which breeds are your favorite and why? I've never heard of Scott dumpy chickens I'll have to check into that!
