what breeds of chickens often go broody???

Of 5 of my neighbors and my silkie hens, 4 went broody at summer solstice. The fifth didn't because she hadn't laid an egg yet. She laid her first egg last week, and this week has been spending a lot of time in the nest box and acting really affectionate towards her eggs and golf balls. I expect she'll be broody soon. My silkie hens recently accepted day old chicks from the feed store when only 2 of their 12 eggs hatched. The two hens are co parenting. It's really amazing to me.

My neighbor has an OEGB that is frequently broody. She has hatched out 26 chicks in the past year. My neighbor really likes chicks. I doubt she would adopt chicks though. She's a fierce mama and would probably kill any chicks she didn't hatch. That's not to say other OEGB broodies wouldn't adopt chicks though.

My OEGBs have been great mommas. Some will adopt, some won't. But I also have a couple of them that have never been broody. Same with my bantam cochins.

Seramas are also a very broody breed, but being so small, I usually only let mine hatch their own eggs.

I have one bantam chocolate orpington that is now trying for round 4 this year! Talk about broody, she is something else. 2 other hens had been sharing egg-sitting duties, so I finally left eggs with them. Now the girl on round 4 has kicked them out and taken over the eggs.
