What Breeds?

Hi!

I sell eggs locally, and ive lost a few members of my flock from disease (the point is I'm short on eggs) and in the spring I'd like to get some chicks. Ive looked up best laying breeds a million times and every list is different. I'd like to get some personal opinions on breeds. Well... Firstly, what breeds are best for laying? That's the number one question.
And also I have a few breeds in mind that I'd like to get opinions on, which are... Americanas, Brahmas, Orpingtons (blue and buff) Wyandottes, and Australorps. I hope I spelt those correctly... No rush, I need to get my flock healthy first.

Best layers are sex links, and leghorns. The breeds you mentioned aren't straight egg laying breeds so production won't be the best especially in the Brahma, BLRW, and Ameraucana. Orpingtons and Australorp will give you 3-5 eggs a week on average.

My brahma hens gave 5-6 eggs a week in their pullet year.

Get an army of leghorns. Small, quiet, and lay like a machine. If you can get a rooster that would be great to get your own chicks.

Leghorns, sexlink, EE's, Australorp.

Wyandottes aren't a great layer after the first year rather poor. And with any production layer expect eggs to drop off significantly after 2yrs but when we had EE's they laid for aslong as we had them just as the day they started. This is based on my experience.

My wyandottes are my best layers my easter egger lays every other day

I agree with the other posts. My ISA browns have been AMAZING layers and their eggs are absolutely huge! Next would be my Leghorns, their eggs are very large also & they lay pretty much every day also, the only negatives to the leghorns are 1) they have a tendency to hide their eggs (at least mine do!) 2) I live in MI and they have huge combs & smaller bodies, so I worry about them more in the winter. Third best layers in my flock are my black sex links. Their eggs are notably smaller than the ISA's and Leghorns but they lay fairly well. My sex links tend to go broody though for some reason, which impacts their egg production.
Totally unrelated to production, I also have easter eggers. Their eggs are about the same size as the black sex links & my GLW's and they aren't as productive as the BSL's but their eggs are so pretty!!!
