what breeed of chicken should i get?

today i found my light sussex miley killed

so i now have room for another hen, what do you guys think, the brred would have to be one that will go broody, be a good layer when not broody (well i dont care about that really becacause thats what my non broody ones are for) and it would have to be hard in the winter, any ideas?

Cochin sounds right. Or what about a Wyandotte?

Silkies are good broodies, but they aren't known for their egg laying capabilities.

I have this polish/SS hamburg, and she is my best layer. Better than the Barred rocks and delaware!

Buff Orpingtons are good mothers when they go broody and Silkies are excellent moms as they often go broody.

id quite like a silkie but i hear they always have problems with there feet if they get muddy
