What can break through chicken wire?

voice of experience... :old chicken wire will rust through within a couple of years buried underground

Good to know!

I have some buried - it’s mostly to keep the young birds and to delay predators - the main barrier is 2x3 welded wire and secure overnight coops. Was the wire you had galvanized? Trying to figure on how soon it will need replacing. Thanks!

Welcome!
Rats and weasels easily get through chicken wire, raccoons, foxes, and dogs tear through it with no difficulty. At least!
Chicken wire is very effective at keeping chickens inside, except for young chicks, who can climb through it too. And raccoons, at least, will reach through it and pull chickens apart while alive, piece by piece.
As a roof for a run, it will keep raptors out.
Underground, it will also rot out in damp conditions.
It's not worth the time or $$.

Chicken wire rusts underground and just disintetrates, doesn't take much time. I had to pull it all out, along with all the rebar and other stuff I had used to stake it down. Don't make that mistake.
