What can I feed day old chicks?

    Can I feed them rolled oat mash?

    chick starter feed if you dont have any on hand ,I fed
    mine chopped hard boiled eggs. and they were fine until i was able get their feed , I used dumor starter chick feed.
    for the first4 months.

    I would got with a high protein food if you don't have chick starter. Hard boiled or scrambled eggs are a great choice. The crop will most likely not be able to handle oats in any form yet. They need grit, when given anything but starter crumble. Actually day old chicks don't need any food. The yolk sac they just absorbed is good for several days. If you don't have the proper feed just make sure they have water. Dip the beaks in the water source and you can get them the proper feed the next day. Some believe letting them eat to soon causes Pasty Butt.

    I did not give my last chicks anything for the first day and I did not have any pasty butt and I usually see several with it when I have provided food right out of the incubator.
