What can I get with this beautiful roo? Cross with what?

I would put him on the cuckoo marans hens.

You would most likely get a real mix of birds. Pick the hens with the most gold, and cross them back to dad. You may end up with duplicates.

You can cross him directly to GC marans or BC marans hens, and reproduce that, he does look like crele over blue - so you could also go blue copper marans. Both blue and black coppers are easier to get than GCMs right now. To EE's you'd have to try it, if he's Rock based - you'd likely get green eggs, if he's cochin and something you might get blue or olive, impossible to tell really. But yes, he'd produce barred offspring. He's quite handsome, I really like the crele over blue.

If you would breed him to a hen with the Black Breasted Red color you should darken and clean up his color in some of his offspring.

I would agree with Chris, cross him with a balck breasted red variety (welsumer) to get more birds similar to him. Some of the offspring will be barred or crele and blue crele. He will also produce some silver hens and males.

Blue Marans
Easter Egger
black Jersey Giant
blue Jersey Giant
no Welsummer ... I will have to go buy one!
no BR .... should be able to find one, though.

I have 2 Silver Penciled Plymouth Rocks (2 months old). I wonder how that would turn out?

With a little work/ time and breeding back to a Black breasted Red (Welsummer) you could start getting some coloring close to this..

I contacted the guy I got Obama from. He can't remember for sure, but said this:

I would say that he could be a Black Sex Link (RIR over BR). I had th BSL at that time, that I had gotten from a Hatchery. Some of the chicks came blue and splash. If that is the case I still have a splash rooster that would be a brother to Obama. I do have some blue daughters from Mr Blue.

Could that be what he is ... would that make sense? I really like the blue in him, as well as the barring and barring coloration.

Chris ... In that coloration, in the picture, is there any blue? Is there a way to keep the blue coloring? Though, I do love that coloration in the picture!
