What can I use as a temporary coop?

So, my coop is taking longer in the mail than I though it would, but I am going to pick up my pullets tomorrow! What do I do?? What can I use as a temporary coop until my REAL coop arrives? Am I up chicken poo creek? I don't have any more money to invest in another coop, as the coop I just bought pretty much drained me... any ideas?

I also did not have a ready coop for my flock, so I used a couple different "chick shacks". First was a homemade rabbit cage that I enclosed with wood. Then I moved them into a wooden box - basically - 4x4x4 that the top opened and closed. I am/was lazy and just had them jump in for night and out for morning (chicks never complained).

So you can use basically anything - large dog house even - that you can secure them in.

How old are the pullets?

Possibly the yard/garage and some plastic fencing w/ weights?

We posted this early this summer--this is what we built and are currently using that is housing 10, 5 mo old RIR's, including 3 Roos.

You can build it in an afternoon from:]
(one) 4x8 1/2 in plywood, cut down center
(one) 2 x 8 support
(two) approx. 6 ft 1x2's to hold the tent shape
sealer on top to prevent rain leaks
(four) small scrap 2x4 pieces to attach the 1x2's to tent (see pics)

When I finish the big coop, I'll creat a BYC webpage with this. Mine took longer because I painted it 3x.

Ah HA! Thanks for the ideas!! Now I know I can rigg something together and it won't severely damage my pullets!

Pullets are 18-20 weeks old.

I put a couple of 2x4's over the top of my pen before I put the tarp on. Keeps the tarp from sagging when it rains.

Chicken wire around the outside of the whole pen. I used zip ties to attach the chicken wire to the chain link.

I had my chickens in a run and just used a large dog igloo. It worked just fine as a temp. Drill some holes in both sides and attach a wooden dowel for a perch. My 8 chickens didn't seem to mind it at all. They would all cuddle up inside.

Thank you all! I pick up my first new pullet tomorrow morning! I'm SO excited! I would have picked her up tonight but I got halfway to Falcon (where she was) and a BAD thunder/lightning storm came in, and we had to turn back. Not a good idea to be caught in one out here, and Falcon get's tornados too... so.. tomorrow morning it is! It at least gives me one more night to get ready for my new princess!
