What can my Chickens NOT EAT?

My chickens adore tomatoes and I feed them extra grape tomatoes all summer long. They really look forward to the tomatoes. It's the green parts of tomatoe plants that are poisonous for them just as it is in us. I am thinking of planting a garden for my chickens in the chicken lot by building a frame around the garden and covering it with wire several inches above the soil so the chickens can only reach the parts of the plants that grow above the wire. Has anybody done this? Does it work? If so how high above the ground should the wire be? I am planning on using 2x4 or 2x6s for the frame work. What kind of plants did you use? I am planning to use a summer seed mix and a winter seed mix but don't know what to put in the mix.
