What caused this and what should this newbie do about it? (pic included)

Thank-you. I'm relieved. I am a worry-wort new chicken mom. I had actually thought about epsom salts so will do that tomorrow. Thanks so much for your input. Who could ever have known there was so much to learn about chickens!!

the scales on his legs look very nice. any problems with scales ususlly makes them thicken. I think that can be treated with vasaline. it smothers the mites.

Thanks. I don't think it's mites either. I soaked both feet and got a good look, Squeezed some pus out of the other foot where there were feathers broken off also. Put some anitibiotic ointment and he's out there being bossy with the girls again. Relieved it's not mites or bumblefoot, but I'm keeping a close eye on him.

YOU DONE GOOD GRASSHOPPER!!! just infected feather follicles. Bumblefoot is on the bottom of the foot and scaley leg mites present as raised scales with lots of whiteish dried "stuff" underneath and around the scales. And Vaseline IS the best way to get rid of that. :D

Thanks! I'm blessed by how everyone helps each other so very much in this forum. Lots of encouragement...even when we blow it, too.

I appreciate the encouraging words and tidbits of wisdom.

I wonder if mites are a problem up here in northern MN.
