I thought mom and dad were both Blue Ameraucana and this (I think pullet) looks almost exactly like the hen, except for gold showing through. What would cause that? This is a hatched baby from our backyard flock so no true guarantee on the hen but she looks just like the Blue Ameraucana we got from the hatchery.

The yellow legs are proof it was an Easter Egger. Don't worry, I also bought a group of seemingly pure blue Ameraucanas looking exactly like Ameraucanas only to find out they were Easter Eggers when crossed one with a Buckeye and half the offspring were not blue or black.

The male specific feathers on the shoulders mean this is a cockerel. A lot of different genes can cause leakage, even in otherwise purebred chickens (though not sure how purebred that one is considering the leg color).

I got Blue Ameraucana specifically.
Now I'm sad! I ordered 6 Ameraucana pullets from Cackle to arrive in July because I've been told they have the real deal, purebred, true-blue, honest-to-goodness, dyed-in-the-wool Ameraucanas, and for the price I'm paying, that's what I expect. Not Easter Eggers! (Though I do love my EE, don't get me wrong!) I just want to breed Ams and I want to know they will breed TRUE.

I know for a fact cackle's are good birds. My friend's champion line of ameraucanas strongly consists of cackle's genes. As for the leakage, idk... Did u ever have any other roosters with the ameraucana hens?
